With profound sadness, we announce the passing on Feb. 4, 2022 of Rita Rapini DeCarlo, 88, of North Haven, our loving and devoted grandmother, mother, great-grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched . She left us while sleeping peacefully, surrounded by loved ones in her home after a powerful and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 5, 1933 in New Haven, a daughter of the late Nicola and Dora DiRienzo Rapini. Rita loved cooking beautiful traditional Italian meals for her family, taking care of her parents and was co- owner with her late husband of New Haven Sewing Machine from 1970-1987, later working for Marshalls for many years, She enjoyed traveling to Florida, and most importantly giving her whole heart and soul to her 3 granddaughters and 8 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her loving husband Carmen DeCarlo, son Carmen DeCarlo Jr., and sister Evelyn Taddei. Rita is survived by daughter Angela DeCarlo, granddaughters: Maria Muratti (Michael), Jennifer Zichichi (Joseph), Angela Chiliquinga (Fernando), and great-grandchildren: Michael, Nicholas, Luciana, Lorenzo, Miabella, Camila, Giuseppe, and Lacey.
Please join us in celebration of her life at MARESCA & SONS FUNERAL HOME 592 Chapel St. New Haven on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and in St. Paul IV Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Hamden for a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10 a.m. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. Memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.(st.jude.org).
