Flor E. Diaz

Devoted Mother and Humble Servant of the Lord:

Flor E. Diaz, 91, returned to the Lord peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on Monday, October 12, 2020 at her home in Hamden.  Flor was born in Chiquinquira, Colombia to Tomás Diaz and Adelida Caro on February 28, 1929.  Flor always had an artistic and creative talent when it came to constructing and assembling guitars.  She assisted her husband, Joaquin Diaz, in the operation of their own guitar manufacturing company, Diaz/Norato Guitar Manufacturing, for over 40 years before immigrating to the United States in 1976.

Flor always exhibited a strong faith in the Lord and lived the gospel in every moment of her life. Flor worked closely with her husband, Joaquin, for a family ministry in Colombia where she worked with local families in the community on pastoral family planning, spiritual guidance and counseling.  She was very active in the St. Rose of Lima Parish in New Haven, CT beginning in 1991. There she was instrumental in working and growing the Spanish prayer group.  Flor always served her spiritual and secular communities with a tremendous amount of devotion and love.

Flor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother always taking time for her husband, five children, and family to instill in them the correct morals, values, and faith in Christ.  Her children always remember how generous and serviceable she was to others.  She would always help those in need in whatever manner in which she could, from giving gifts to children who were less fortunate at Christmas time to always being there to console families during times of grief and loss.  On one occasion she opened her home in Cali, Colombia to a single mother and her two daughters who had lost everything.  Flor provided a safe haven, food, and clothes for the family for nearly 3 years.  Flor also ensured that the eldest daughter finished school and began a successful career in order to create a better life for her mother and younger sister.

Flor Diaz is survived by her five children, Betty Linares, Esperanza Montoya, Luz Diaz, Flor Ossa, and Joaquin Diaz Jr; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  Flor will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all of the many individuals and families; whose lives she has touched over the years.
