Entered into rest, Nov. 5, 2023, Elvira M. “Butchie” Cretella, 75, of East Haven; born March 27, 1948, daughter of the late Andrew and Ena Cawley Cretella.
She attended SCSU and worked at J. Press Co. for 15 years and later in the emergency room admitting department at the Hospital of St. Raphael for 34 years before retiring. She taught CCD at St. Bernadette’s Church for 20 years, received the St. Joseph Award and also volunteered at the Branford Community Center and the Ronald McDonald House. She was a long time commincant of Our Lady of Pompeii Church.
Butchie is survived by her brothers Joseph, Domenic (Debra), Robert (Gladys) and Michael (Christine) Cretella, Sr., her cousin Pat Twohill, several nieces and nephews and close friends Barbara and John Dougherty, Camille Fappiano and Georgiana Hull. She was predeceased by a brother Andrew and a nephew Michael Cretella,Jr..
Family and friends may call at MARESCA & SONS FUNERAL HOME 592 Chapel St. Thursday from 4 p,m. to 7 p,m and are invited to go directly to St. Pio of Pietrelclina Parish at Our Lady of Pompeii Church Friday to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
