Edith Irene Alfano

Edith "Irene" Alfano, 92, of New Haven, peacefully entered into heaven, after a long illness, on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at the Meriden Center. Irene was born in New Haven on May 22, 1928. She spent her entire life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Irene was predeceased by her loving husband, Anthony V. Alfano and her brother John J. Houde. She will be sadly missed by her daughter and grandchildren. Janey and her husband Jose Santiago Sr. of Wallingford; her grandchildren Jose Jr. and his wife Teresa, of Wallingford; John and his wife  Wendy, of Michigan; Gina and her husband Lawrence Abele, of Meriden. Grandchildren; Amanda and Travis Santiago; Trent, Logan and Jamie Santiago; Hannah and Tyler Abele; Great-grandchildren Leah Hurley and Carter Santiago. Irene also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Her family wishes to thank everyone at the Meriden Center, for all their compassion and loving care they showed to our mother and grandmother. Being unable to visit her, during the Covid 19 issue, we were at peace knowing she was taken care of and loved by the best nurses,doctor, aides and staff including, Valerie, Roberta, Sharon,Giovonna, Betsey, Nicole and resident Felix, who always showed us his support. An extra special thank you to Irene's roommate Betty Barna, she was Shirley to Irene's Laverne  Funeral services and private burial in All Saints Cemetery
