Caroline "Dolly" D'Angelo Obituary

Caroline Mary Papagoda D' Angelo "Dolly" ,  age 95, born on June 5, 1927 in the Wooster Square area of New Haven, CT. She entered into rest after a brief illness on Dec. 14, 2022 her home in East Hampton, CT along the shores of Lake Pocotopaug. She was the loving wife of the late Richard John D' Angelo, Sr. and devoted mother to Susan Carol D' Angelo Wielgosh (Phil) and Richard John D' Angelo, Jr. (Kim). She loved her family dearly and her beautiful Italian Greyhound Grand Dog Pepe. She was the daughter of the late Jennie Gaetano and Ralph Papagoda, Sr. and sister to her brothers the late Anthony, Ralph and Edward Papagoda. She also has several devoted nieces, nephews  grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was a consummate professional in all that she accomplished in her life. After graduation at Larson College and Quinnipiac University she worked as a Professional Registered Clinical Medical Technologist at The Hospital of Saint Raphael in Chemistry and in her specialty Electrophoresis for over 40 years. Among those years she trained many college students in Electrophoresis and enjoyed having the opportunity and expertise to assist the next generation of medical technologists. During her many years working at The Hospital of Saint Raphael there was a ceremony at the Old Chapel where she met Maria Von Trapp. After our mother performed The Our Father' Maria Von Trapp placed her hands on our mothers' face and asked "Where did you get such a beautiful voice?"
The love of her life was performing opera. Throughout the State of Connecticut she performed many solo performances as a Mezzo Soprano with The Connecticut Experimental Theater for over 40 years under the direction of Maestro & Mrs. Riggio. She continued opera performances at The Shubert 'Theater and was also a soloist for St. John The Evangelist Church in New Haven, CT for many years. It was always an honor for her to be asked to sing at so many weddings for so many brides to be. Opera was one of her greatest loves and she was asked to audition for The Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Our Mother was known for her role as Suzuki in Madame Butterfly. It was always a joy to see her perform. Our Dad always accompanied us (his two children) to see our Mother perform at the Shubert Theater. We were so very proud of her.
Our family, at this time, would like to thank Middlesex Health Care at Home for the beautiful care our Mother received. Thank you to all our Hospice Nurses, Home Care Aides and Caregivers who comforted her during this time. All of your loving care will never be forgotten. Thank you all so very much.
Our Mother was an exceptional and very talented individual with so many gifts. She loved giving away her beautifully knitted blankets and those knitted winter hats and scarves she loved to make for everyone! Her love for family was and will always be enduring. Every holiday was always so spectacular & known for her very special Christmas cookie trays and the meals she made were the very best every year of our lives with her! There will never be another "Dolly" in our lives and you will be missed more than you will ever know DEAR DEAR MOM!  YOU WILL ALWAYS BE LOVED MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW! 'and I will sing forever more .
