Albert J. Rapuano, 80, of Las Vegas passed away on July 17. Born in New Haven on January 20, 1942 of Albert and Louise Munz Rapuano, he is survived by his children Richard James (Judy) Rapuano of Mexico and Danielle E. Rapuano of Las Vegas. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Ann D’Albero of East Haven and his grandchildren Isaac McDorman and Halle Rafferty Parra of Las Vegas, and Mia Rapuano of Mexico. Favorite “unc” of Fred (Suzanne) D’Albero, Paul (Suzanne) D’Albero, and Sr. Doretta D’Albero, ASCJ. Mr. Rapuano attended St. John the Evangelist grade school in New Haven and Notre Dame High School in West Haven. He was a proud 1963 graduate of Fordham University with a B.S in Business and Hotel Management. Upon completion of his degree, he served his country for two years in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Rapuano began his career in hotel management at the Palmer House in Chicago. He managed various 5-star hotels in Dallas, Atlanta, and Reno. In Las Vegas, he was President of The Riviera and then held a top management position at the MGM Grand.
Mr. Rapuano was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to jazz. He kept up an interest in all things New Haven, frequently searching the Internet for articles about food and attractions in his city of origin. He especially admired the Jesuits who influenced him during his college years. He had a great work ethic and would give you the shirt off his back. He had a way of making others feel important; he taught all his employees to treat everyone with respect—from the CEOs to the service staff. Albert loved to tease people and make people laugh. He was smart, and classy, and funny.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 17 at 11:00 am at St. Michael Church, 29 Wooster Place in New Haven. Burial is private in Orange Center Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Neil Rapuano of Maresca Funeral Home in New Haven. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
